Little Girl Blue

This is all I listen to lately.

Sit there and count your fingers
What can you do?
Old girl you’re through
Sit there, count your little fingers
Unhappy little girl blue

Sit there and count the raindrops
Falling on you
It’s time you knew
All you can ever count on
Are the raindrops
That fall on little girl blue

Won’t you just sit there
Count the little raindrops
Falling on you
‘Cause it’s time you knew
All you can ever count on
Are the raindrops
That fall on little girl blue

No use old girl
You might as well surrender
‘Cause your hopes are getting slender and slender
Why won’t somebody send a tender blue boy
To cheer up little girl blue

Top 5 (in no particular order)

1. Falsettos – Acting Up Stage
I’m biased. But it was the best, ok?

2. Hedwig and the Angry Inch – Breathe.Feel.Love.
So good I saw it twice. My friend, Seth Drabinsky, transforms into Hedwig. Got obsessed with the music and is a show that stays with you and makes you think about it over and over.

3. Fiddler on the Roof – Stratford Festival
Made me fall in love with this show. Enough said.

4. Once – Broadway
I found out it isn’t overhyped. It’s stupidly beautiful and made me cry like a baby. Some gorgeous music-making that fills you up.

5. Polly, Polly – Theatre Mischief
An incredibly touching story performed by an incredibly talented woman. I definitely thought of this a lot after seeing it. One of my favourites of this year’s Fringe.

Birds

Hey, guess what? I’m doing a Neil Young cover concert on January 26th at Measure in the Annex (formerly known as the Annex Live) – featuring my partners in crime Robin Claxton, Jeff Deegan, and Pat Power. You should come, because it’s Neil Young. Really, there isn’t much more to say. It’ll also be a nice way to see people before I head off for a couple months for a gig I can’t announce yet. (Miss Saigon Jr. obviously…)

Lover,
there will be another one
Who’ll hover
over you beneath the sun
Tomorrow
see the things
that never come
Today

When you see me
Fly away without you
Shadow on the things you know
Feathers fall around you
And show you the way to go

It’s over, it’s over.

Nestled
in your wings my little one
This special
morning brings another sun
Tomorrow
see the things
that never come
Today

When you see me
Fly away without you
Shadow on the things you know
Feathers fall around you
And show you the way to go
It’s over, it’s over.

Golden Years

In honour of going to the Bowie exhibit at the AGO today – here’s one of my favourites of his. The rhythm groove set up is unreal. It interlocks so well. And guys, let’s be honest, Bowie is one of the most attractive rock stars in history. Just look at him.

The Chain

Mick Fleetwood is definitely one of my favourite drummers. Precision and power.

After the Gold Rush

As far back as I can remember, I have been listening to Neil Young. Happy Birthday to the best of the best.
